A formal electrician education will be in high demand for the next several years. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects employment will grow by 12 percent, explaining that [h]omes and businesses require more wiring than ever before, and electricians will be needed to install the necessary components.

As for your salary, the BLS reports that the median salary nationwide for an electrician was $46,420 in 2008. The highest salary for electricians was more than $79,000 while the lowest was less than $28,000.

How to Become an Electrician? Classes/Apprenticeship


Most electricians go through combination of taking a formal electrician course of classes at a trade school followed by a four-year apprenticeship. According to the BLS, many electrician apprentices must have at least 144 hours of classes as well as 2,000 hours of paid on-the-job training.
